MGAs started withe the XPEG 1.5 liter engine from the TF and went shortly after to the 1.6 liter BMC "B" engine which was enlarged to the early MGB 1.8 with 3 main bearings. It got 5 mains in 1965. The nearest thing to a 1.3 liter MG engine would be the 1275 Spriget engine, the ultimate BMC "A" engine.

Attached is a picture of the groove along a contour I turned. I have no knowledge of how this would work on other machines. I had another opportunity to do something similar where I needed a helical groove in the middle of a part, and that also worked to make multiple plunge passes into a groove.
