Guarding at or around take-up pulleys A gravity take-up device is used to provide tension for a conveyor belt. Generally, a free weight is suspended on a tension pulley from deflection (bend) pulleys on the return side of the belt. This take-up travelling pulley with weight is free to lower as needed, to remove any slack as the belt is operated.
