Duplex 2205 is a two-phase, ferritic, austenitic 22% chromium, 3% molybdenum, 5 to 6% nickel alloyed stainless steel. It is the most widely used duplex stainless steel grade and is characterized by high yield strength, double that of the standard austenitic stainless steel grades.

30/08/2022 · The standard austenitic steels of the ASTM 304L and ASTM 316L types are prone to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in chloride- bearing solutions at temperatures above 60 °C (140 °F). Duplex stainless steels are far less prone to this type of corrosion. Laboratory tests have shown good resistance to stress corrosion cracking of SAF™ 2205.

Duplex 2205, also known as UNS S32205, is a nitrogen-enhanced stainless steel. Users choose Duplex 2205 for its excellent corrosion resistance along with its high strength. The machinability of Carpenter 2205 stainless generally has been between that of conventional Type 316 stainless and Carpenter 22Cr-13Ni-5Mn stainless. The following chart includes typical machining parameters used to machine Carpenter 2205 stainless. The data listed should be used as a guide for initial machine setup only.

It can be corrected by complete solution annealing processing. This steel grade works well at temperatures lower than 300oC. The recommended heat processing for Duplex stainless steel 2205 is solution annealing from 1020 to 1100oC then quick quenching. It can be work hardened. It has high strength, fine welding and working properties.
